Back on track... then off again

I finally got some real miles in these past couple days. 15 yesterday and I had 20 in today by 2pm. Needless to say, my feet hate me right now. I'm sorry to say though that right now I'm in the airport heading back to jax, for multiple reasons, including the fact that I can't seem to sleep on the trail( haven't slept in days) and my dog lily has been sick since I've been gone. I'm hoping to come back for a section around crater lake in Oregon later in the summer though to do some hiking with Uncle Tom! I'm disappointed to be leaving, but there is always another opportunity sometime in the future. Thanks for everyone's support and making it possible!

San Diego Aquarium

So we walked today from Old Town to the aquarium in Birch, which turned out to be a 10.5 mile walk. We are pooped, but it was well worth the trek.

A day at the San Diego Zoo!

We spent at least 6 hours at the zoo today and it was definitely awesome! We didn't even get to everything! But we saw some very cool animals. It was a very nice day and I don't think we could have asked for more fun. It's too bad that I can't show videos on the blog from this phone, because I caught awesome scenes today from fighting zebras, to playful pandas, to a lion devouring some kind of bone!

Side-tracked

Turns out we would've had to push to hard to make it to the town of Julian, CA by our deadline, so we headed in to San Diego for a few days until Alana's flight leaves. This means no trail photos for a few days, but ill be back May 1st or 2nd. Don't worry, we're still alive!

Day Dos

I couldn't post yesterday for lack of battery, but we're all good now. Hard day?? Absolutely. We started hiking at about 730 (which is pretty late for hikers apparently) and got 10 HARD miles in by 1230. The whole thing was up! I've never walked so slow in my life. I'm quickly learning that I need to get rid of some weight in my pack, so ill have to figure out within the next few days how to shed some of it. We stopped at Lake Morena and joined the PCT kickoff party for a bit. Good times!
We are actually in San Diego for the next few days so that Alana can catch her plane back to Jax, FL, but ill be hitting the trail on May 1st I think. Missing everybody!

Day one!

So only having hiked half a day, i would say that we did pretty well, trudging along for a good 10+ miles. When we arrived at the southern terminus of the trail, i wanted so badly to go and touch mexico, which was on the other side of the wall behind us, but there were border patrol everywhere! we've already met some really nice people and i hope to meet up with them tomorrow again. So far, so good!

Arrived in Cali!!

Alana and I have arrived in San Diego California and are now heading out to the middle of nowhere! Of course we were super rushed last night so I left a few essential items back home that the best mother ever will be shipping to me. I will be posting a few pics tonight of our first miles on the trail, so stay tuned! Also, thanks so much to our trusty driver, Fil!
